José Maria ‘Pechito’ López is a racing driver from Argentina whose varied career in motor sport eventually led him to the World Touring Car Championship in 2014.
Despite facing strong competition from his world-famous Citroën team-mates Yvan Muller and Sébastien Loeb, López dominated the season’s action. His ninth win of the season at Japan's legendary Suzuka circuit sealed the championship with three races to spare.
Before his 2014 heroics López had already competed in a wide range of different series including GP2, Formula 3000, ALMS and FIA GT. Having started in karting in 1993, he progressed through the ranks before beating Robert Kubica to the Formula Renault Italia title in 2002.
The Argentine driver has also been a test driver for the Renault F1 team and he was even lined up to race for the USF1 team that ultimately failed to make the grid in 2010.
Such a variety of experience will be crucial as López now makes his Race Of Champions debut in Barbados.
